The Slaight Music Emerging Songwriter Award, presented by the CSHF, celebrates the current achievements and future potential of emerging Canadian songwriters. Established in 2017, the award is generously sponsored by Slaight Music, with the overall objective of encouraging and supporting the development of Anglophone and Francophone songwriters who are on an upward trajectory in their careers. Winners are awarded with a cash prize, access to Slaight Music recording facilities and a segment at the CSHF Induction Ceremony.

Slaight Music was started in 2011 with a mandate to support the Canadian music community through a variety of initiatives, and to develop Canadian talent via strategic partnerships with industry peers. They are also invested in the technology sphere, helping Canadian music entrepreneurs develop the next generation of digital platforms and services.
