The second Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony took place on February 8, 2005 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre’s John Bassett Theatre.

The event honoured Modern Era Inductees Burton Cummings, Randy Bachman and Claude Léveillée, as well as timeless songs by some of Canada’s most influential songwriters and three Legacy Award recipients.

The ceremony featured an extended version of the Guess Who No Sugar Tonight / New Mother Nature by Bachman and Cummings themselves, and an all-star band rendition of American Woman and No Time by Tom Cochrane, Three Days Grace, Ian Thornley, Jeff Healey and Margo Timmins. Jacksoul paid tribute to the songwriters with his performance of their hit These Eyes.  Music legend Gordon Lightfoot presented the duo with their award.

Former RPM Weekly publisher Walt Grealis and Stan Klees were presented CSHF Legacy Awards along with Quebec folklorist Ernest Gagnon. CSHF founder Frank Davies was the recipient of the 2005 Special Achievement Award.

The evening also included performances by Boom Desjardin, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Colin James, Corneliu Montano, Eric Lapointe, Jackie Richardson, Joe Sealy, Gavin Brown, Gordie Sampson, Gordon Lightfoot, Ian Tyson, Loreena McKennitt, Luce Dufault, Marie Denise Pelletier, Matt Dusk, Quartette, Ron Hynes, Tom Jackson, Shaye, Shelagh Rogers and Sophie du Rocher.

The ceremony was aired live on February 8, 2005 by broadcast partner CBC Radio One.
